China Has Figured Out Sports Streaming And Allows You To Adjust Whatever Angle You Want To Watch And Now We Need It In Every Sport
Listen, everyone has that one friend that plays games like 2K or Madden on the weirdest camera setting you've ever seen. Some shit like this:
Or a friend that would tell you that this was a good camera angle in the NBA:
And anyone who watches sports on a regular basis probably doesn't have any major complaints about the camera angles. But what China is doing here is some futuristic type shit. I don't even like badminton but I might have to start. I also don't really get how this is even possible, unless you somehow have a zillion cameras inside the arena that you can somehow switch back and forth to. That's too much thinking for this simpleton brain.
The one thing that this probably fixes that we don't talk about enough is something like baseball where the camera operator makes you think that they hit a ball 500 feet and it's just a routine popup. Or just human error in general. There's apparently an article about this, and even though it's in Mandarin, here's what it says about the technology about it for you tech heads:
successfully deployed a domestically developed "3D video sports event live streaming system" around the venues. Based on a real-time 3D video acquisition array, the system integrates self-developed deep learning and 3D reconstruction rendering algorithms to achieve real-time 3D modeling of the competition scene and seamless fusion of multi-view videos, marking the official entry of "3D video sports event live streaming technology" into the practical application stage.
The generated 3D video live stream will be distributed through the new version of the CCTV Video client, allowing users to drag and drop the game from a 360° free-viewpoint using mobile phones, tablets, and other devices. It also supports smooth switching and zooming of the game footage, providing viewers with a personalized and intelligent viewing experience.
Those are too fancy of words for me to just say that you figured out sports streaming. Whatever it costs to get that technology over here stateside, let's go ahead and get that done.
