UNC Football Loses Again And Bill Belichick Has Zero Interest In Any Postgame Handshake With Jake Dickert
I have no problem with this, but let's start here.
UNC Football loses to Wake Forest Saturday night, 28-12. Bill Belichick 100% blows off Wake head coach Jake Dickert at midfield after the game. Dickert, out of respect for Bill, takes the hat off and gets ready to greet the Greatest Coach of All-Time at midfield. Belichick wants nothing to do with it.
There's no sound on the video, but you can SENSE the grunt from Bill as he gives Dickert the classic, half-handshake/blow-by.
To me, not a big deal. Like, at all. Bill is there to coach his team, not make some memory for an opposing coach. His team just lost, falling to 2-4 in the ACC. He's pissed. This is a football game, not a coaching clinic.
Now, if it WERE a coaching clinic, Belichick might have to explain what the hell is was doing on the sidelines in the loss.
Down 21-9 early in the fourth, Belichick elected to kick a 47-yard field goal rather than going for it on 4th and 10 from the Wake 29-yard line. Getting three there does nothing for you; down 12, there's no three-point conversion available. Unless the ACC has some new rules I'm not aware of.
To their credit, UNC forced the punt and got the ball back. But trailing by 9 with just over six minutes to play, Bill punted the ball back to Wake.
I wish I knew exactly when Dave posted this, but clearly he was invested, as he gave out UNC +6 as his play on The Barstool College Football Show.
At this point, the game is all but over. Wake is up 9, two-score game, clock ticking. With 27 seconds left, Wake is at the UNC three-yard line, just running the ball up the middle. The game is over until ... UNC calls time.
I don't even know if Wake would have had to run another play?
Well, after Bill called time, they'd score a TD. UNC Players - and their coach - did not seem happy.
I'm just a bald guy on my couch, but it looked like some bad late-game coaching from Bill there. I don't blame Wake and Dickert for scoring after that Belichick timeout. And so I also don't blame Bill for the half-handshake/blow-by.
Since you asked (you didn't), I thought that ridiculous statement Team Belichick put out on Friday night was much worse for Bill than the post-game blow-up.
Please please please let there be documentary footage of this post being crafted.
"We're on to Wake Forest." 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 a million of these.
Well, now Bill and UNC are on to a showdown with Duke. UNC needs the win to stay in the mix for a Bowl Game.
We'll see if Bill has any interest in a post-game handshake after that one.
