Tom Cruise Got An Honorary Oscar, Brought The House Down With A Speech And Then Danced His Ass Off
If you know me, you know I'm a big fan of Cruise. Is he a psycho? Absolutely. But he is the psycho that cinema needs. There is no actor in the world that is more dedicated to this medium and delivering the true cinematic experience than him. No grey. No sludge. No slop. Just pure action on screen and he is one of the few people standing up for it.
On top of being arguably the only movie star left in the world for the genre of popcorn movies, he is a legitimately great actor! He has crushed dramatic roles outside of the action genre. If you ask me, he should have had a runaway best actor victory for 'Born on the 4th of July' (DDL won for 'My Left Foot'). So for this to be his first "win" kinda sucks. I do think he will start throwing out some more monster dramatic roles now that the action period of his career is dying down, but still.
Anyway, his speech rocked. At the top of the world and all he wants to do is thank all the people that have helped him along the way. I also like him essentially giving a veiled threat to the streaming industry by pledging to preserve the cinematic experience. That's why he's the king!
And, even at his age, you cannot stop this man from dancing.
