Dumping Them Out: One Of These Is A Hoe

Welcome back to another episode of Dumping Them Out. Happy Lane Kiffin Day to all who celebrate. Kinda disappointed Lane Kiffin only ended up holding Ole Miss/Marty Smith hostage for 24 hours. Was kinda hoping he would drag this out a few more days… or weeks… maybe until the end of the playoffs. But it was a fun 24 hours. Congratulations LSU. Fingers crossed no good NFL jobs open up in the next couple of years. Or Alabama. Or maybe USC? Lane Kiffin once called USC his dream job. Maybe he'd like a crack at redemption there. Or maybe he'll back out of LSU in a few hours and take the Penn State job. Nothing is out of the realm of possibility for that guy. Except for him coaching the 11-1, #7 ranked team in the country in the upcoming playoffs that he just led them to.

I tweeted this about Lane Kiffin the other day.

Clearly that's not what he was doing. But some coach should really should some day. These teams with job opening put themselves in such vulnerable positions when going after coaches in the same conference. One day there's going to be a coach who realizes the competitive advantage his team could gain over a conference rival by throwing a big fat wrench in their coaching search.

Also, before all this bullshit drama with Lane Kiffin holding everyone hostage, if you'd asked the Ole Miss players, I'd think they'd prefer Lane Kiffin was their head coach through the playoffs regardless of whether he'd be back next year. I'd imagine the players care way more about having the best chance to win a national championship right now than they do about loyalty to a school they've only been at for a year or two. I know with the current landscape of college football, it'd be crazy for Ole Miss to let him coach. But I also find it a little crazy that at no point did anybody consider asking the players what they'd prefer. I mean, at the end of the day, the game is still supposed to be about "the kids" right. I guess "the kids" are getting paid millions of dollars now, and can transfer whenever they want, so I don't feel as bad for them as I would have 10 years ago. But it would be nice if there was at least some thought that Ole Miss would care first and foremost about the current players in their locker room.

Penn State better do something big with their coaching hire soon. For the last week or so, I've seen multiple cryptic tweets of this nature

But so far, for this being "the craziest coaching carousel in the history of college football", the names being hired are pretty underwhelming. I know some of these guys are fine coaches, but aside from Lane Kiffin… Jon Sumrall to Florida, Alex Golesh to Auburn, and Ryan Silverfield to Arkansas don't move the needle all too much. C'mon Penn State. Do something crazy. My hope is they go with the fan controlled model.

In other non-coaching college football news, without reading the caption, see if you can guess where this guy plays football.

I love how Hawaii goes all out with being Hawaii. I need them to get back to being a ranked team again. I know it was only for a brief time, but the Colt Brennan Rainbow Warriors left quite the mark on me as a child. I need Hawaii to be good again.

I can't say I've ever considered attending a Coastal Carolina football game before, but I just might have to look into tickets for next years Revolutionary War Reenactment Game.

Nothing gets a crowd fired up to lose to James Madison by 49 points more than that.

Sherrone Moore has to be the most out-of-his-league coach in all of college football. I know Michigan went 9-3 this year. But is there anybody in the world who truly thinks he's the best man for that job? That offense could not possibly strike less confidence into a viewer. Bryce Underwood didn't make a lick of progress this year. Beating Ohio State last year honestly might have been the worst thing to ever happen to Michigan. Now they're probably going to give him another year. Another year wasting Bryce Underwood, who's in desperate need a real HC, OC & QB coach. And the fact that at the end of the game yesterday, he was focused on having his team protect their mid-field logo… when nobody on Ohio State gave two shits about it…

That's just embarrassing man. He certainly understands the whole Michigan culture thing, but it's like that's the only thing he cares about. Wearing a Carhart jacket to press conference because we're bringing our lunch pails this week isn't coaching. It's the type of thing that worked for Jim Harbaugh on top of being an incredible football coach. You still have to know X's & O's and how to develop players. Sherrone Moore is never going to be able to out recruit the rest of college football to the point that he can just ram the ball up the middle all year long. Those days are clearly over.
