That Was Quick: Ole Miss Is Reportedly Naming Former DC Pete Golding Its Permanent Head Coach
Ole Miss didn’t even wait until Lane Kiffin’s introductory press conference in Baton Rouge to move on to its next head coach, giving Pete Golding the permanent job right off the bat. Golding was reportedly the favorite to be the Rebels’ interim head coach for the College Football Playoff, but it seems he’s just getting the full-time gig.
It can’t be overstated how badly Kiffin screwed Ole Miss in this entire situation. National Signing Day is this Wednesday. The Rebels will be preparing for a CFP game next Sunday. Auburn, Arkansas, Florida and obviously LSU have already hired their coaches. There was only so much Ole Miss could do at this point.
I think I speak for virtually the entire college football viewing public when I say I will be rooting for Golding’s success both in this year’s Playoff and going forward. It would be pretty incredible to see Lane flame out at LSU while Ole Miss just keeps things rolling with the next guy. How realistic that actually is remains to be seen.
The silver lining for Ole Miss fans is there was at least some sort of plan in place for when Kiffin left. Try to keep the roster and staff in tact as much as possible and go compete in the Playoff.
