Kentucky Finally Made The Smart Decision To Save The Program And Reportedly Fire Mark Stoops After Another Season Of Pathetic Football
This right here is Kentucky football. A lost season, pathetic season, but waiting until after big moves happen within the conference. Jon Summrall played at Kentucky, coached at Kentucky and was always expected to be the guy who took this program over when Stoops was done. Well, because Mitch Barnhart waited too long to make the decision, you lost Summrall to Florida. Awesome. Then there was the whole $38 million buyout. Everyone assumed this wouldn't happen because Barnhart always plays everything safe and wasn't going to pay that to him.
Instead the move that had to happen finally did. Stoops was embarrassing the last two seasons. He refused to adapt, he refused to get his team ready and goes out by getting his ass kicked to Vandy and Louisville. In fact Vandy is even more reason why you fire Stoops. You can't say 'there's no hope to compete', not when Vanderbilt and Indiana are teams ranked in the top-15.
Now, it wasn't all bad. Mark Stoops is the most successful coach Kentucky football has ever had. He took this program from the bottom with Joker Phillips to winning 10 games and actually looking the part. But, the time went too long. It felt like Barnhart was keeping Stoops around in the same way people don't get divorced for the kids around the holidays. You can't run it back though. Not when Stoops was smug about losing and assuming he'd have a job because of all the money. It's the reason why Mitch Barnhart has to go too, he got bailed out by Arkansas for taking Calipari when the contracts have been a mess.
There's plenty of jokes when it comes to Kentucky football. We're aware of the same ones over and over again. But, the one thing is this fanbase cares about the sport. It's not just counting down days to basketball season like it was in the past. We fucking love football and want to win again. Go get a guy who can figure it out. I've seen names like Will Stein, Dan Mullen, Brian Hartline. Fine. Just win.
