Odell Beckham Jr. Went On A Podcast To Complain About The Struggles Of Receiving A $100 Million Contract And How "Money Doesn't Last Forever"
Whenever someone starts an interview explaining how they're "going to be okay without having money", that usually means they're not going to be okay without having money. It means the writing is on the wall, reality is about to hit, and they probably regret pissing their money away on half-million dollar earrings and lime green Lamborghini's.
The problem for a guy like OBJ lies in what he said at the 30 second mark..."flaunt." After it's all said and done, he had about $12 million per year and now it's (allegedly?) gone because he wanted to "flaunt" rather than "invest". Here's how he broke it down...
“And I always explain this to people. Like bro, you give somebody a 5-year, $100 million contract, right? What is it really? It’s 5 years for $60M. You’re getting taxed. Do the math—that’s $12M a year, you know, that you have to spend, use, save, invest, flaunt…just being real. I’m going to buy a car, I’m going to give my mom a house. Everything costs money. So, if you’re spending $4M a year, that’s really $40M over five years—$8M a year [from a projected 5-year/$100M contract with tax deductions included],” Beckham Jr. said.
“That’s a five year span of where you’re getting $8M [per year]. Can you make that last forever? And you always hear the people who ain’t us and ain’t been in the position to be, ‘oh, well that would last a lifetime.’”
Do I feel bad for him? Of course not, but I kinda get it. He fell victim to lifestyle creep and was either A) too stupid or B) too stubborn to make a change. Gotta keep up appearances!
That said, going on a podcast to complain about how you couldn't make $8 MILLION per year last is a wild move. Even if it's true, keep that to yourself, brotha. No one is going to relate to your story. People are going to think you're an asshole who deserves nothing. What a shame. Fingers crossed Christmas at the Beckham's isn't too sparse this year.
