'Marty Supreme' Is The Best Movie Of 2025, And Timothee Chalamet Must Win The Oscar

ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!

It would seem as though, barring an unforeseen challenger, we have my #1 Movie of 2025, and it has arrived in the form of 'Marty Supreme' from Josh Safdie (yes, just one Safdie), with Timothee Chalamet in the lead role.

'Marty Supreme' is an electrifying, wild ride, packed with award-worthy performances, and the best movie of the year.

And it seems as though many others agree...

For me? This is a 97/100, which would place it behind 'Oppenheimer' and 'Dune: Part Two' as my third best movie of the decade. So, yes, Timothee Chalamet is dominating my list… but more on him in a second…

The movie is frantic as hell, fast-paced, and packs a riveting story with an excellent script. While this may not be both Safdies, you can feel the Safdie Brothers vibe throughout, thanks to great work from Josh Safdie behind the camera. If you like 'Uncut Gems' and 'Good Time', you'll love 'Marty Supreme'. And, honestly, if you don't love those movies, this new released packs a little different of a punch in terms of emotional & comedic weight. You never have time to breathe in this movie, and it whips you around with a slew of flat-out absurd characters.

Those characters are elite in, and that's tanks in part to A) great performances, and B) fantastic casting. Let's start with Timothee Chalamet, who is putting in a career-best performance with this role. Personally, I think Paul Atreides is his best work, but he's been excellent in every role. And while I know people were pissed, he didn't win Best Actor last year for the Bob Dylan movie, I think this role, a unique one which he brought his own spin to, is the perfect one to get him Oscars glory.

When you look past Chalamet though, you find an elite cast with a grouping of great performances. Odessa A'zion is quietly becoming a force, Gwyneth Paltrow turns in my favorite performance of hers in years, Kevin O'Leary… yes…

…the guy from Shark Tank, is fucking fantastic, Tyler Okonma (Tyler the Creator) has a few really fun scenes alongside Chalamet, Fran Drescher doesn't get a ton of screentime but it's great seeing her in a big role, filmmaker Abel Ferrara is incredible, and while there are others to mention, I will end on Luke Manley, aka Lukey Lunchbox, aka a former contestant on Barstool Idol…

…who crushes a role which is far bigger than I ever expected to see.

The beauty of the Safdie's is that they cast the most random people you'll ever find in New York, and Lukey is no exception after he was cast following an appearance in a New York Knicks Sidetalk video on TikTok & Instagram. What a fucking story.

As expected, following 'Good Time' and 'Uncut Gems', the score in this movie drives the entire mood & tone, the soundtrack & song selections are top notch, and the look of the movie plays perfectly into the frenetic energy. It's beautiful in so many ways, and one of those movie-going experiences that makes you want to stand up and applaud when the credits roll.

The hype for 'Marty Supreme' was heavy, and often times when that happens with movies it spells disaster… but not with this one. This is the real deal, and it comes out on Christmas Day later this December. Rip open your stockings, or do whatever you need to do, then get your ass to the theater for this wild ride.

What a fucking excellent movie.

ABSOLUTE CINEMA!

Will anything defeat it? It seems unlikely, but I still have to see the following movies:

  • 'Hamnet'
  • 'No Other Choice'
  • 'The Testament of Ann Lee'
  • 'Clouds'
  • 'Sorry Baby'
  • 'Is This Thing On?'

There's a chance one of them could leapfrog to this front, but time is running out, and Marty has this prize nearly wrapped up!
