Mets Sign (Former) All-World Closer Devin Williams To A Three-Year Deal
Did Stearns do it again or did Stearns do it again?!?
First the Mets broke Devin Williams at the end of 2024 with an all-time great playoff moment.
Then they allowed him to flounder in the Bronx only to sign him to a three year deal as the setup man for Edwin Diaz while pitching like the beast he was in Milwaukee.
Yes I said the setup man to Edwin Diaz because that's the only way I am going to feel good about a two pitch pitcher like Williams taking the ball late in the game, which has been something the Mets have been reportedly interested in doing since free agency started.
No #DISRE2PECT to Pete or any other free agents, but there is nobody I want the Mets to sign more than Edwin Diaz. Because despite all the fun stuff other players can do for the Mets, only one man has made the ninth inning a place where I feel safe. Sure that guy is only getting older and had a serious leg injury a few years ago. But he is my baseball fan blankey that keeps the boogeyman away in the final frame and I won't trust anybody else to do that on the planet right now.
So let's keep Williams in the setup role where he has less pressure and can improve the numbers on the back of his baseball card since his under the hood numbers were apparently pretty good last year.
Now if you will excuse me, I am going to nervously refresh Twitter to see where Diaz might end up signing while my Giants continue to do dumb shit on Monday Night Football.
You know what? Fuck it. I'll plug some Drake Maye shirts just because he's carved Joe Schoen's secondary up like the turkey I housed on Thursday. 20% off for only a few more hours on Cyber Monday!
