People At NBC Are Officially Concerned That Jimmy Fallon's String Of Injuries Are Due To His Excessive Drinking

NYP- He’s one of NBC’s biggest success stories — keeping “The Tonight Show” at the top of the late-night ratings with bouncy show tunes and campy games.  Now Jimmy Fallon is also one of NBC’s biggest worries. On Oct. 24, Fallon was stitched up at a hospital in Cambridge, Mass., after falling — and dropping a bottle of Jägermeister — while receiving the Harvard Lampoon’s Elmer Award for Excellence in Humor. “I threw the bottle and then I landed on broken glass,” a bandaged Fallon recapped on his show the following Monday. “There [were] pools of blood everywhere.” It’s the party guy’s third injury in four months, and sources say NBC is worried that Fallon’s drinking has become excessive. And while they’re not doing anything about it — yet — “It’s gone from being a whisper to a chatter,” says one industry insider of Fallon’s over-the-top behavior. In June, the 41-year-old comedian nearly severed his finger after tripping on a rug at his luxe Gramercy Park pad and catching his wedding ring on a countertop. Prior to that injury, he had been out dining and posing with wine-drinking fans at Upper East Side Italian restaurant Scalinatella.

The consecutive injuries come on the heels of a seemingly endless parade of Page Six mentions chronicling the after-hours antics of the host, who is married to Nancy Juvonen (co-owner with Drew Barrymore of the production company Flower Films) and has two daughters, both under 2 years old. There was April 2014 at the East Village dive bar Niagara, where Fallon was allegedly involved in a brawl after a Thursday night taping of “The Tonight Show.” (The next evening, he managed to rally and partied at a Chelsea watering hole until the early morning, buying shots of vodka for the entire bar.)

I’m not sure why I’m so fascinated by this story but I am. I even asked the question in a blog last week before this New York Post article came out citing NBC sources who voiced their concerns about Jimmy Fallon’s injuries and how he got  them. I basically wanted to know whether Jimmy Fallon is just super duper clumsy or if he’s a stumbling drunk who keeps hurting his hands in different alcohol-related instances. Well it turns out some people at his network think it’s the latter and they’re getting concerned. This will sound very Iowa but I’m mostly interested in this story because I like to get a peak into how a super famous person such as Jimmy Fallon lives and exists in a place like New York. That’s really it. How does he even wipe his ass without it becoming a story? I’m actually a little surprised there aren’t more videos of a raucously drunk Fallon tearing up NYC given his spotlight, his known status as a party boy and the way social media is in 2015.

And so what if Jimmy Fallon is a drunk? If he is, he’s really good at it (or at least he was up until a few months ago before he started breaking a hand every other week). He smashes everybody in the ratings every single night. He took the Tonight Show torch from Jay Leno and ran with it in a way that Conan O’Brien never could/was never given the chance to. Go to any site that posts viral next-day content on any day of the week and you’ll see Fallon’s face everywhere. Holding golden retriever puppies with Salma Hayek. Playing human bowling with Jared Leto. Playing charades with Wiz Khalifa and Jim Parsons. Whether or not that stuff is your comedy cup of tea is largely irrelevant. He’s transformed himself from the likable guy who would laugh in every SNL sketch into Lorne Michaels’ golden boy and a late-night monster with no signs of slowing down. He just so happens to enjoy a drink every now and again to blow off steam. Sue him. I’m sure his party boy ways will catch up with him at some point like they do with everyone. He’ll show up to 30 Rock hammered, take a dump on his desk and head to rehab. I’ll be just as interested in that story too.

Did we solve anything or answer any questions in this blog?  Nope we didn’t. That’s fine. I do recommend reading the whole New York Post article if you’re like me and are interested in this type of stuff though.
