Islander Fans Kinda, Sorta Helped Fix The Nassau County D.A. Election

Isles
(Source) – For weeks and months – and then all day yesterday – fans of the NY Islanders used social media to encourage one another to vote for Democrat Madeline Singas for Nassau district attorney in a clear revolt against Republican Hempstead town Supervisor Kate Murray.
The fans blame Murray for the downfall of the Lighthouse Project and the subsequent departure of the team to Brooklyn. And with all of the Isles fans’ tweets, there was never a social media response from the Murray camp – which may have hurt her in the end.
But Singas recognized the power of the base, and encouraged it. And yesterday, Isles fans may not have made the crucial difference but certainly contributed to her surprisingly large margin.
Look I’m not a politics guy, I’m a hockey guy, but this is something I can easily get behind. You take our Coliseum, we take your career. Simple as that.
Murray has been the target of blame for the Islanders leaving Nassau since Day 1, so the second she announced her attempt to run for DA every fan knew what they had to do, which was vote for whichever lucky soul that happened to be running against her. I don’t know anything about Singas, I don’t know if she is a crazy good prosecutor, and in all honesty I probably wouldn’t have had a clue about this race if not for the given circumstances, but the way Isles fans went out of their way to make sure Murray’s career was finished is something out of a 30 for 30. You just can’t knock that hustle.
Gotta give credit to Murray for sticking her neck out the way she did, knowing how about 75% of the county she was running in wanted her dead, now add that to the fact that she was running for DA [y’know, District Attorney] with literally zero experience in prosecuting, and you have yourself a good ol’ fashion powder keg of embarrassment.
Thanks for the memz Kate, we’ll save you a seat in hell, right next to Darcy Tucker.
PS – So now that we’ve won the Nassau County DA chair, maybe it’s time to focus on winning a playoff series, eh? [Beat the comment section to it]
