[The Verge] – The 24 reboot is slowly taking shape. Earlier this month, we found out that Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer would not be 24: Legacy’s main character, but now we finally know who will be. Corey Hawkins, who played a young Dr. Dre in F. Gary Gray’s Straight Outta Compton, was just tapped for the leading role in the 12-episode series, Variety reports.

Hawkins will play Eric Carter, a war veteran whose return to the US comes with its own set of problems. Hawkins will play opposite a female lead who has yet to be cast.

This is RIDICULOUS! Jack Bauer was written to be a WHITE MAN! Corey Hawkins is too street to play him!

Exploding-head

Pretty pumped for a 24 reboot, I’m pretty much the show’s #1 superfan and rewatched the entire series from start to finish last year (check out the Barstool DVR episode I did with KFC here).

Buttttt my expectations are obviously very low without any Kiefer in it. He was the heart and soul of the show and created one of the most iconic characters in TV history – pretty much impossible to replace him, no matter if you’re white, black, orange or green. (Even mentioning race is ridiculous considering the second most badass dude on that show was Curtis.)

So, Corey Hawkins it is. Straight Outta Compton was an A+ movie and Hawkins was pretty solid as Dre, but can he be an action star? Can he save the world in 24 hours 8 separate times? I’ll just go into it expecting it to suck, that way the only thing I can feel is pleasantly surprised.

PS,

I would say though, if we were looking for a cool ass black dude to be the lead, pretty sure we’re all in agreement for who immediately comes to mind.

If I find out Elba got lowballed for this I won’t rest until heads roll.
