TW- “After assessing the present condition of my back, and consulting with my medical team, I’ve decided it’s prudent to miss this year’s Masters. “I’ve been hitting balls and training daily, but I’m not physically ready. I’ve said all along that this time I need to be cautious and do what’s best for my long-term health and career. Unfortunately, playing Augusta next week wouldn’t be the right decision. I’m absolutely making progress, and I’m really happy with how far I’ve come, but I still have no timetable to return to competitive golf. “I’d like to express my disappointment to Billy Payne, the Augusta National membership, staff, volunteers and patrons that I won’t be competing. It’s a very important and special week to me, and it’s upsetting to miss it. I do plan to attend the Champions Dinner and see a lot of old friends. “I’d like to thank the fans for their concern and support. The last few years have been difficult, but I have the best fans anywhere, and I want them to know that.”

Fuck my life. That sucks. That really sucks. I had actually convinced myself that he was gonna play. I felt it in my gut and my gut is right like 7% of the time so the odds were good. No denial to me meant he hadn’t ruled out playing but there’s our denial. Straight from the horse’s mouth. CLASSIC Friday late afternoon Tiger Woods news dump that I should’ve seen coming from a mile away. Just classic. I did kind of see it coming but I was blinded by my love for Tiger Woods. It hurts now, and convincing myself that he was gonna play was probably stupid, but I’d do it all over again if I had the chance. The day I stop thinking Tiger is gonna play in the Masters is the day he hangs’em up for good or the day I die. Whichever comes first. No ragrets. Better to have been an insufferable fan boy of a washed up golfer and been let down time and time again than to have never done it at all. It still really really sucks that he’s not playing. The one upside is the focus will be on the field of players at the Masters as opposed to one guy but that’s not really an upside for me. I wanted to talk about nothing but Tiger. Alas. Next year? He’s for sure playing next year.
