The Nationals Brought The Steroid Era Back For A Night, Crushing Matt Harvey And The Mets
I’m a pretty young guy and my childhood baseball watching prime definitely fell after the steroid era of the 90s and early 2000s so it was awfully nice of Ben Revere and 4 other Nats (Zimmerman, Rendon, Murphy, and Ramos) to go all Ken Caminiti (RIP) on Matt Harvey and the Mets‘ asses.
This game didn’t start as a capsule back to baseball during Carmen Electra’s prime (NSFW) – the first 3 innings were a pitcher’s duel between current ace Stephen Strasburg and former ace Matt Harvey. Harvey shut down the Nationals the first time through the order and twitter was abuzz with news of his return to form but then he served up back to back blasts to Ryan Zimmerman and the red-hot Anthony Rendon who is hitting .367/.483 over the past two weeks. Harvey is a mental midget and after those two pitches, the Dark Knight couldn’t handle the Nationals’ lineup. In the next inning, Bryce sac-flied a run in, Daniel Murphy hit this monster shot, and Harvey was done for the night after just 84 feeble pitches.
To say he is easy to figure out and loses his command as the game progresses would be an understatement:

The homers continued after Harvey was unceremoniously yanked from the game – Wilson Ramos hit his 5th and I really can’t say enough good things about his production this season and even Ben Revere joined in on the fun. Revere’s first homer as a Nat came in game #17; he broke in with the Minnesota Twins back in 2010 and played 254 games for the franchise; he hit exactly 0 homers during his 3 season Twins career. Lost in Matt Harvey’s 3rd straight dud is Strasburg’s 8th win of the season. I’ve been saying since last season that 2016 would be Strasburg’s year and he has been proving me right so far. Stras tossed in double digit Ks in 6.2 last night and is certainly a top pitcher in baseball and will remain that way for the next several years.
