It Is Time To Grow Up And Stop Disrespecting Carly Rae Jepsen

Ever since Call Me Maybe dropped people have been calling Carly a one hit wonder and I’m officially sick of it. Her newest album, Emotion Side B, which wasn’t even supposed to be an album because it’s just the songs that she didn’t think were good enough for Emotion last year, is AWESOME. Much like how Sia dropped one of the hottest albums of the year, This Is Acting, using a bunch of beats that Beyonce and Rihanna didn’t want Carly Rae grabbed some stuff off the trash heap and made it a banger. Very Belichickian of her, if I may say. It’s as good as pop albums get, and they’re the best kind of albums. Her voice is amazing, the lyrics are fantastic, and the beats have that old school pop feel to them. It’s incredible.

People slept on Emotion HARD last year and I’m not sure why. I don’t know if it’s because Carly Rae isn’t sexy in the typical pop star sense or because she’s not 18, but she’s much, much more than a one-hit wonder. If you’re not listening to her new shit then you’re doing yourself a grave disservice. She’s the most underrated artist alive and just puts out slaps top to bottom. Who else could put out an album the same night as Young Thug and overshadow him? No one. No one ever.
