Turns Out Philly PD Has Accidentally Hired A Nazi. Whoops

Philly dot com – Mayor Kenney on Thursday condemned a photo of a Philadelphia police officer with an apparent Nazi-style tattoo on his arm, saying the tattoo was “incredibly offensive” and not the sort of message police should be giving the community.

The Police Department also said its Internal Affairs unit would review the photo, which began circulating on social media Wednesday night. It showed a bike-patrol officer with a tattoo on his left forearm of an apparent spread-winged eagle resembling a symbol used by the Nazis, and above it the tattooed word Fatherland in Gothic letters…

…In a text message, John McNesby, president of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5, wrote of the photo: “I’ve seen it. It’s an Eagle. Not a big deal.
Absolutely love the “it’s not a big deal” move here. John McNesby sees a blatantly obvious nazi tattoo and is just like yo, dude. It’s just for the friggin’ Iggles bro. Guy’s just a die hard Birds fan. So why don’t you go get yourself some wooder ice, maybe a hoagie and calm the heck down.
And let’s be honest here. People are acting like nobody has ever gotten drunk in college before and then gotten a horribly regrettable tattoo. Maybe you get a tribal band, maybe you get a tramp stamp, maybe you get your girlfriend of 3 weeks’ name tattooed right over your heart. Philadelphia police officer Ian Lichtermann (who, if we’re just going by his name, totally sounds and seems like a nazi) just decided that his tattoo was going to symbolize his allegiance to Hitler’s cause. Ah to be young and reckless again.
Is this necessarily the greatest look for Philadelphia given the circumstances of intensified relations between police and the black community? Well… no not exactly and there’s not really even a good way to spin this one. But what I will say is that I’d pay good money to see this guy and Colin Kaepernick in the same room together. Hel, give them their own show on FS1 because something tells me that would be an electrifying duo.
