Andrew McCutchen Promised AJ Burnett Two Home Runs And Then He Hit Two Home Runs

Cutch

Babe Ruth is a pussy. Oh, you called your shot in the World Series and hit a dinky ass home run? Andrew McCutchen said he was gonna hit TWO home runs, and then he did it. Boss move. Advantage: Cutch. That’s Coop in Baseketball type stuff, the stuff that legends are made of.

Despite having a bit of a down year, McCutchen’s home run numbers are all right there. He’s about 40 points below his career batting average, and 112 points below his career OPS, but that two-homer game got him to 23 bombs for the year to match his home run total from last season. He leads the Pirates in homers this year, not that that’s a huge accomplishment, given that the Pirates are 26th out of 30 teams in home runs. Where he’s really fallen off has been his lack of doubles. McCutchen had averaged 35 doubles a year over the six seasons leading up to 2016. This year, he’s got 21.

He’s only 29 years old, so I doubt that this is the beginning of the end in terms of McCutchen’s peak years. Back in spring training, he expressed his interest in playing his entire career for the Pirates, so maybe his uncertain future beyond 2018 is weighing on him. Who knows? All I know is that the dude can still mash, and apparently he can mash on command, too.
