Iowa Gets Blown Out By Florida In A Disastrous Outback Bowl
I should’ve known. I should’ve known when that Bloomin’ Onion gave George Kittle an earful that it was going to be a long day for the Hawkeyes. What an unmitigated disaster. Not only was that one of the most boring bowl games of all time but Iowa was never really in it. They couldn’t do shit on offense (minus Akrum Wadley who is endlessly entertaining any time he touches the ball) or defense (minus Desmond King who I will miss immensely). The game was basically televised Ambien. Not to mention CJ Beathard stayed in for wayyyyyyyyyy too long when the game was outta reach/it was pretty clear that he was injured. That’s gonna be the main story after the game. Kirk Ferentz is gonna get asked why he decided to leave a hobbled Beathard in the game when he could’ve easily put in backup QB Nathan Stanley. Stanley eventually went in but not until there were just two minutes left in the game. I can understand Beathard wanting to stay in since it was his last game at Iowa but still. Ferentz has to step in and pull him earlier. Especially when his health becomes the main issue.
All in all, that’s a super shitty way to end the careers of fan favorites CJ Beathard and Desmond King. Iowa has lost it’s last 5 bowl games and that’s pretty staggering. Nothing will change though. Kirk Ferentz isn’t going anywhere. Offensive coordinator Greg Davis should’ve been fired years ago but he’s most likely not going anywhere. I plan on wiping this game from my memory and remembering Beathard and King for the 12-0 2015 season (while also wiping my memory of the Rose Bowl).
PS- To be honest, the win over Michigan was this team’s bowl game. That was the high point of the season and it was awesome. #Trent2NYC
