Justin Thomas Completes The Hawaii Sweep With A Historic Week At The Sony Open
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. Kapalua? Win. Waialae? Win. Justin Thomas? En fuego. Those scorecards are insane. Nobody has completed the Hawaii sweep since Ernie Els in 2003. Just an unreal week for Justin Thomas at the Sony Open. It’s been a unreal two weeks for JT in Hawaii but this week especially. The 23-year-old broke just about every scoring record in the damn book. He shot a 59 on Thursday. Then shot a 64 on Friday to grab the lowest 36-hole score in PGA Tour history. Then shot a 65 on Saturday to tie the lowest 54-hole score in PGA Tour history. THEN shot another 65 today to break the 72-hole total scoring record at 253. Oh and I guess there were other players in the tournament too but Thomas had control from wire-to-wire. Jordan Spieth said it after his Sunday round that it felt like JT was playing a different tournament than everyone else. That’s exactly how it felt. Zach Johnson was in 2nd place after 54 holes but it felt like he was in 1st place and Thomas was simply on a different planet. Good for you, JT. There will be more than enough “Justin Thomas’ good friend Jordan Spieth…….” jokes to go around and I’m here for it. What a week. What a start to the year.
PS- There’s some people saying they don’t like how the course was playing so easy this week and how players were going so low. They’re not wrong I suppose. It felt like everyone and their mother could’ve shot in the lows 60s this week. To be honest I couldn’t care less. I like it. If every tournament was like this then it’d obviously get annoying but it’s not. Tougher courses are right around the corner so everybody needs to relax. Not to mention it’s fun to be reminded from time to time just how insane these dudes are at golf.
