Wake Up With Sandy Koufax Dominating In The 1965 World Series
Here’s how Sandy Koufax went out — he ended his career with five straight ERA titles, four strikeout titles in his last six years, three Cy Young awards in his last four years, the wins leader in three out of his last four years, the innings leader in his last two years, the lowest WHIP in four out of his last five years, and the best strikeouts per nine radio in six out of his last seven years. He also won an MVP in 1963, the same year that he won his first Cy Young award.
He was the fucking man. And in that 1965 World Series, which, if you watch the interview at the end, he admits that he didn’t even know he was pitching in Game 7 until he showed up at the ballpark that day, he had a 0.38 ERA in 24 innings over three starts, earning MVP honors. It’s a goddamn shame that Koufax’s career ended when he was just 30 years old. Nevertheless, despite his career only lasting 12 seasons, he accomplished more than enough to become a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 1972.
PS — I’m gonna miss the fuck out of Vin Scully.
