Wake Up With Al Kaline's 3,000th Hit (1974)

Throwing it back to the 70’s with Al Kaline’s 3,000th career hit. He’d hang it up after just seven more knocks, all 3,007 of them with the Detroit Tigers, and then join the legends in Cooperstown, New York as a first ballot Hall of Famer as part of the class of 1980.

If we’re being 100% honest, I picked Al Kaline this morning because I made a Doug Funnie reference in a blog yesterday, and it reminded me of another Nickelodeon character with a baseball twist. It didn’t hit me until years later, but in Hey Arnold, the character Mickey Kaline was a mashup of Mickey Mantle and Al Kaline, who wore Babe Ruth’s number. Shout out to the baseball fan who worked on Hey Arnold for dropping that on my childhood brain.
