BREAKING: Ryan Howard Signs With The Atlanta Braves
CBS – The former Phillies first baseman has signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves. Howard will reportedly go to extended Spring Training and then, according to Bowman, will “likely” join their Triple-A affiliate. Howard, 37, was a 2001 fifth-round pick of the Phillies, making his MLB debut in 2004. Howard is a three-time all-star first baseman, two-time home run champion, the 2006 NL MVP, and a World Series champion.
Got one! Rumor had it (from one of my inside-out guys) Ryan Howard was talking with the Braves and BAM! Signed, locked, and loaded about an hour later. Granted, I have no idea how this makes sense for Atlanta. I have lesser of an idea how this makes sense for The Big Piece, too. Why not wait it out for a decent DH spot to open up with a possible contender? I don’t get how drudging it out in extended Spring Training in the minors for a 1B position he can no longer play in the big leagues is a good play for anyone. But, whatever. If The Big Man thinks this is the right move, good for him. Even though he’ll be within the NL East, I’ll still be rooting for the Phillies legend. And, yes, it’s a lot easier to support Howard on a rival team than on the Phillies when he swings at an 0-2 low and away breaking ball as hard as I punch in my dreams.
Looks like the shit finally stuck against the wall, eh? Stay hot, Smitty!
