Money In The Bank Season Is In Full Force On SmackDown

Welcome to this week’s SmackDown recap! I’ve been ridiculed for being too negative on the product recently, so I tried to write an optimistic blog yesterday, but apparently that’s not cool either, so I’m gonna try to ride the line on this one. Yayyyy let’s recap the show!

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2017 Money in the Bank match. I think it is an ABYSMAL decision to make this a single branded show, as it’s much bigger than Survivor Series at this point, a double branded show. Especially when you look at the men taking place in this match. We have:

-Kevin Owens (who is better than Jinder Mahal in every capacity)
-AJ Styles (who is better than Jinder Mahal in every capacity)
-Shinsuke Nakamura (who is better than Jinder Mahal in every capacity)
-Dolph Ziggler (who is better than Jinder Mahal in every capacity)
-Sami Zayn (who is better than Jinder Mahal in every capacity)
-Baron Corbin (who is better than Jinder Mahal in every capacity)

So uhhh, what does the undercard of the show look like? Usos (who are better than Jinder Mahal in every capacity) vs Breezango (who are better than Jinder Mahal in every capacity) rematch, Mahal (boooo) vs Orton (who is better than Jinder Mahal in every capacity, do you get the point I’m making here?!) rematch, Women’s MITB? Is that all? It’ll be a two hour pay per view if so.

NOT a great representation of women. Could you imagine Finn Bálor, Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, and Samoa Joe whining like this and being “likable” or “tough”? I left Seth out because he does whine like this and is not likable. Let’s never do this again.

Baron Corbin beat the ever living fuck out of Sami Zayn, so I think there’s a chance someone is going to have to step in and take his spot at Money In The Bank unless he’s making a miraculous return at the event. Possibly Tye Dillenger, who expressed interest on Talking Smack.

BEHOLD! THE MAHARAJA CELEBRATES HIS CHAMPIONSHIP WIN WITH A JINDER REVEAL PARTY! For all the shit I’ve given him, this YouTube video has a fuck ton of views.

This segment sucked, much like everything Jinder Mahal has ever done other than WeeLC, and reminded me just how much I despise everyone saying “AT LEAST IT’S NOT ANOTHER SUPER CENA TITLE REIGN!!! YOU WANTED SOMETHING DIFFERENT, YEAH?!” No, I didn’t. :(

Breezango and The Usos faced off in singles matches, followed by a tag match, and it was a good, fresh spin, instead of just hitting a rematch switch for no reason. I really love the direction of both of these teams, and hope it can be carried into other tag teams on SmackDown. The potential is there for it to have a wonderful division, but the execution on some teams such as American Alpha has been disappointing.

Remember yesterday when I called Finn Bálor vs Karl Anderson one of the most surreal matches to take place in a WWE ring this year? Uhhhh, scratch that. AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura teamed to defeat Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler in a big main event on SmackDown. Ho-lee Shit. It was a really fun match, and Kevin Owens and Shinsuke Nakamura have great chemistry. I saw them have an AMAZING singles match three years ago at the Hammerstein Ballroom, and really look forward to them meeting in a WWE singles match. The interaction between Styles and Nakamura at the end was great, but unfortunately fell flat to the live crowd, who seemed to not know why that was a big deal. Their match at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans next year is going to blow the roof off the Silverdome, brother.

That does it for this week in wrestling. More details about myself and Carrabis’ wrestling podcast (launching June 14) should be coming in the next few weeks when we get the social running and all that, so make sure to follow the both of us on twitter.
