Government Takes Bernie Madoff's Sons' Estates To The Cleaners
Source - Bernie Madoff’s family is not done paying back the money he scammed from thousands of investors. The estates of Bernie’s late sons — Mark and Andrew — have agreed to forfeit $23 million in money they acquired through years of their dad’s infamous Ponzi scheme. It’s part of a deal struck with Irving Picard, who’s responsible for recovering cash for Madoff’s victims.
Both sons died years ago — Mark of a suicide in 2010, and Andrew of cancer in 2014. Neither was ever charged in connection to their father’s crimes. After the payback, their estates will still reportedly be worth $1.75 mil for Mark, and $2 mil for Andrew. Bernie is currently serving a 150-year federal prison sentence in North Carolina for pleading guilty to 11 federal felonies in March 2009.
Yes- they’re dead. Yes- It’s sad. Moving on. I’m a big Bernie Madoff guy. Not because I like him, I don’t. He’s arguably the most evil human of all time this side of Hitler and Bin Laden. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that his story is fascinating. He was arrested in 2008 and they’re still finding money today. Craziest part is the estate probably didn’t even know they had it. When you lose sixty-three billion dollars whats another twenty three million? It’s called fuck you money. Meanwhile I drop a single and show symptoms of a panic attack. No matter how hard I try I can’t put myself in the headspace of having infinite money. Doesn’t mean I don’t try. I enjoy a day dream as much as the next day.
Even though the government claims “recovering” the twenty-three million was the last of the Madoff money we’ll never actually know. If he was smart enough to swindle thousands of people out of their life savings I’m sure he was smart enough to set aside some get away money. I feel bad for the kids but they’ll be fine. Two million dollars is a lot of money for anyone, let alone for a toddler.
