Update: Former Sex Scandal Teacher Great Blames it All on a "Mental Disorder"

Back in early March I served up a nice Grade of A- to Sex Scandal Teacher Emily Lofing of Weeping Water Middle School in Nebraska. The facts of her case were that she arranged to bone one of her students who had just turned 16 for “the purpose of sexual penetration.” I admitted at the time that her grade was based mostly on looks, as she’s what I’ll call My Wheelhouse Chick and we didn’t even have confirmation that she had actually done it before getting arrested or if she was a victim of Sexscandalteacherus Interruptus.

Emily is currently serving 90 days. And she’s the second most famous American to ask to be let out of jail this week. From the NY Post:

Lofing’s lawyer, Desirae Solomon, blamed her predatory behavior on her family history of depression and work stress, according to KWBE.

“That’s the tragedy of mental illness,” Solomon told Judge John Steinheider. “It doesn’t know demographics. It doesn’t know race. It doesn’t know age. It doesn’t know education, and, when mental illness strikes, it can sometimes do so without any warning.”

“They speak to a period of time when Ms. Lofing was living a double life,” she said. “People who have known her for her whole entire life were shocked at this type of behavior.”

But Steinheider noted Lofing craftily dodged more serious charges.

“This alleged indiscretion, I’ll say, took place on the victim’s 16th birthday,” the judge said, according to WOWT. “You were less than 24 hours from a felony here.”

Oh c’mon, Emily! Cut the crap with this mental illness talk! That’s not what this is supposed to be all about. Soliciting one of your students into sexual penetration isn’t an illness. It’s a proud tradition. It’s not a disorder, a malady or a mental condition. It’s part of education in America. It’s what smokes like you do to make life worth living for horny, post-adolescent boys. Just because you want to get out early and start dating again is no excuse to stigmatize your fellow SSTs. Not to mention a major part of our culture.

I still have no plans to revisit her grade as punishment for these disparaging remarks towards a group that doesn’t deserve to be marginalized like this. And the fact the judge did the math and figured out she actually waited until the kid was out of felony age helps her cause a lot. But mostly at the time we didn’t have that mugshot with the glasses. So she escaped being downgraded this time. But I won’t tolerate any more of this kind of intolerance again.
