The Hockey World Got A Little Less Sexy Today
Tennessean – The career of arguably the most recognizable player in Predators history ended Thursday when captain Mike Fisher announced his retirement in an exclusive for The Tennessean.
Fisher played 1,088 NHL games across 17 seasons with the Predators and Ottawa Senators. The 37-year-old became synonymous with the Predators franchise during six-plus seasons, totaling 237 points in 413 games.
Goddammit. God. Dammit. Mike Fisher and Carrie Underwood are arguably the hottest couple in all of sports. I’d put them right up there against Tom and Gisele and they probably come out of that one on top 7 times out of 10. There’s not much that hockey has over football, but that was one of them. But now it’s over. Now we get no more of this.
They say you don’t know what you got ’till it’s gone. Well, my friends, Carrie Underwood is gone and it’s a modern day tragedy. We took it for granted. We had the world by the balls and we didn’t even know it.
I can’t thank Mike Fisher enough for what he’s done for the game of hockey. 17 years of grinding it out on the ice and grinding it out off the ice. Over a thousand games in the NHL and managed to lock down a set of legs sculpted by the gods themselves. And to top it all off, he turned Nashville into a hockey city. I don’t know if his numbers are Hall of Fame worthy. But as far as a career in life goes, you’d be hard pressed to find somebody more worthy of being immortalized in Toronto than Mike Fisher.
And for the time being, I guess this passes the torch to Brooks Laich and Julianne Hough as the hottest couple in hockey.
A well-deserved honor. Now Brooksy boy just needs to find himself a roster to crack.
