Many People Are Mad About Sean Spicer Being Used For Entertainment... At An Entertainment Show
So the Emmys were last night. Overall I think they’re dumb but that’s probably because I’m not a big celeb guy. I’m celeb-illiterate; don’t know who anybody is. If you’re into it, I’m sure they’re great. Fine by me. This is America, you can enjoy whatever you want. Freedom baby, it’s a beautiful thing.
My problem was they got super political and by super political I mean they all just shit on Trump every chance they got. I blogged all about how lame I thought that was but whatever. We’re not here to talk about that. We’re here to talk about the Spice Man.
This weird but kinda funny and self-aware moment has proven to be wildly polarizing. People are FURIOUS that Spicer was brought out as entertainment… at an entertainment show.
Yes the whole thing came off a little weirder and more bizarre than anyone intended but overall I LOVED it and here’s why.
1) Sean Spicer is hilarious and entertaining and this is an entertainment show so chill out and enjoy it. Freedom of expression and creative freedom and all that shit for the win.
2) Watching these celebs have NO CLUE how to react when this foreign, enemy wrench was thrown into what was supposed to be their personal little safe space echo chamber where they all share the same opinions and reinforce each other’s beliefs was so enjoyable. I mean this chick who I have no idea who she is but probably am supposed to might’ve had the most preposterous reaction to anything I’ve ever seen.
3) It made political celeb twitter lose its mind over how morally wrong it was to have the former White House Spokesman interrupt their glamor show……. which they relentlessly littered with one-sided political takes all night.
Whole thing just seems so damn hypocritical. Colbert is on your guy’s side. Despises Trump as much as the next guy. He clearly saw that bringing Spicer in was a simple opportunity for some politically-related comedic relief — basically what many of these folks get paid millions to do for a living; wouldn’t you think they’d be able to see that too?
