The NY Times Thinks If We Let Boys Be Boys, They Will Murder Their Fathers And Have Sex With Their Mothers. I Disagree.

NY Times- After weeks of continuously unfolding abuse scandals, men have become, quite literally, unbelievable. What any given man might say about gender politics and how he treats women are separate and unrelated phenomena. Liberal or conservative, feminist or chauvinist, woke or benighted, young or old, found on Fox News or in The New Republic, a man’s stated opinions have next to no relationship to behavior.

For most of history, we’ve taken for granted the implicit brutality of male sexuality. In 1976, the radical feminist and pornography opponent Andrea Dworkin said that the only sex between a man and a woman that could be undertaken without violence was sex with a flaccid penis: “I think that men will have to give up their precious erections,” she wrote. In the third century A.D., it is widely believed, the great Catholic theologian Origen, working on roughly the same principle, castrated himself.

Acknowledging the brutality of male libido is not, of course, some kind of excuse. Sigmund Freud recognized the id, and knew it as “a chaos, a caldron full of seething excitations.” But the point of Freud was not that boys will be boys. Rather the opposite: The idea of the Oedipus complex contained an implicit case for the requirements of strenuous repression: If you let boys be boys, they will murder their fathers and sleep with their mothers.

Over the break, the New York Times made headlines outside of their own publication more times than one. First, they normalized a Nazi a made a lot of people very angry:

Then, they published this article entitled “The Unexamined Brutality of the Male Libido” with the social media tag, “Opinion: If you let boys be boys, they will murder their fathers and sleep with their mothers”. Now this is a clickbait clinic, because it got everyone (including me) talking about it, but just because I acknowledge that doesn’t make it suddenly a rational thought. If you let boys be boys, they’ll probably play tackle football in the living room and break a lamp. If you let boys be boys, they PROBABLY won’t slit their dad’s throats and fuck their moms. I know many boys who have been boys, but I don’t know any who have done that.

One other preposterous thing in this article is the thought that “the only sex between a man and a woman that could be undertaken without violence was sex with a flaccid penis”. That’s not possible, so I’m gonna argue that is not the only sex that could be undertaken without violence. That’d be like trying to put a piece of salami in a credit card reader. Also, if you’re such a hardo that you’re not holding back your cum, you’re holding back a boner, I’m gonna say that probably is violent just by principle.

Everything else the author wrote wasn’t too far off though (when talking about the current sexual assault/harassment scandals), and it’s pretty important to get people to read shit like that so maybe the clickbait was genius. Who knows.
