KB Toys Is Planning A Comeback After Toys "R" Us Announced That It Is Closing All Of Its Stores
NY Post- The defunct KB Toys brand is planning a comeback — after nearly a decade in mothballs. Hoping to capitalize on the apparent demise of Toys ‘R’ Us, the California company that bought the KB brand in 2016 is in talks with pop-up operators to open stores in malls before Black Friday, it said Monday. Ellia Kassoff, chief executive of Strategic Marks, which bought the KB brand from the US Trademark Office after previous owner Toys ‘R’ Us let it go dormant, said he will open as many stores as possible later this year.
#COMEBACKSZN!!! What a fucking move out of KB! Wait until the company that dominated you for years announces it is closing up shop and rise from the ashes like a phoenix. Capitalism at its absolute finest. You can’t be known as the poor toy store in town if you are the only toy store in town. That’s what they teach you the first day of business school Sure this will likely be a Grand Opening, Grand Closing type of fiasco. Everyone will be thrilled a toy store that reminds them of their childhood opened up. But by the end of Day 1, KB will probably look like it did for all of my childhood. Boxes of strewn all over the floor like a war zone, handwritten red sale numbers on the price tags, and the vibe that you are at the welfare office waiting for food stamps. If Amazon, Wal-Mart, and any other company that knows how to sell toys in the 21st century could take down a once proud company like Toys R Us, KB will be light work.
People are going to walk into KB with it looking like this
And leave 5 minutes later with it looking like this
Also shout out to this Ellia Kassoff character for pretty much buying up the Island of Misfit Companies and just waiting/hoping that American icons die out.
Kassoff is a collector of dead retail brands. His company owns Bamberger’s, I. Magnin, Bullock’s the Hydrox cookie brand and others.
I’ll admit I don’t know most of those companies outside of KB and Hydrox. But if Hydrox ever comes back in a big way like KB is hoping to do, that means that Oreo is dead. And if that happens, America is pretty much dead too. So no offense to Ellia, but I hope I am never writing one of these comeback blogs for the Winklevoss twins of the sandwich cookie.
