I Lost 8 Pounds In March And Have Lost A Total Of 42 Pounds Since The Beginning Of 2018

We’re back folks! A month later and we’re back for another edition of Trent Trying To Not Be A Lazy Piece Of Shit Anymore!

To recap, I started the year at 263 pounds. I lost 21 pounds in January. I lost 13 pounds in February. And now I lost 8 pounds in March. Bringing the grand total to 42 pounds. It’s kind of crazy. I’m down to 221. That’s less than what I weighed in high school when I was still an active person. It feels great. Low key the greatest feeling was buying a Large shirt the other day. I was walking on sunshine after that shirt fit. Small victories are the best victories. None of my clothes fit anymore but I don’t wanna go shopping. It’s a problem. It’s a good problem to have but a problem nonetheless.

Anyway. March is where things have changed the most. In the previous months I kept it very simple. I ate better and worked out exclusively on the elliptical (#gang). I ate lots of salad, chicken and fish.  I got on the elliptical, pedaled at my own speed for 45 minutes with no resistance, got off and went home. It was very simple. I kept it very simple on purpose. The reason being that I would quit if I made things too complicated. I knew that I needed to move around more than I was before, eat better and the pounds would fall off. Which they had, to the tune of 34 pounds in two months.

I decided to make it more complicated in March. Working out is just part of my routine now so it was time to start mixing in other stuff. I knew I wanted to start lifting weights. I hit up my friend and known weight lifter Jared Carrabis and he put a plan together for me. I lift 3 days a week. Nothing crazy. I’m not gonna be The Rock but #BeachSZN is upon us after all.

I started doing intervals on the elliptical. 45 minutes. 4-5 times a week. It ramps up the resistance and incline for two minutes and then goes back down to normal for two minutes. It does that for the full 45 minutes and kicks my fucking ass. I’m a dead person when it’s over. It’s great. I’ve also started trying to work out in the morning which is a work in progress to say the least.

My diet has stayed the same. No carbs. Banana or eggs for breakfast. Chicken or fish with something green on the side for lunch. Same thing for dinner. One cheat day a week (usually Sunday). I’ve cut out drinking completely. That’s been one of the best parts honestly. No extra calories from a bunch of beers. No hangovers. No giant hangover meals that fill me with regret. My social life is less lively but I’ve recently come to the realization that I don’t care. I’d rather feel good.

If I had to guess, the weight loss is going to tail off. I’d be shocked if I lose double digits in a month again. A couple reasons why. I’ve started lifting so that’ll make me put on weight. I’m not gonna be jacked but up until March I was only trying to loss weight. Lifting will add some.

The other reason is I simply have less to lose. We’re getting to the point where my body likely won’t allow me to go much lower. My goal is to get to 200 pounds but even that might be too low for my Midwest frame. I was texting with my brother and I told him I wanted to get down to 200 pounds. He said I’d be the first Ryan male to be 200 pounds in generations and he’s right. We’re big dudes. All of us. It’s genetics. So we’ll see where my weight goes from here.

A lot of people have been asking me what the secret is to losing the weight or sticking with the workouts and eating healthy. Unfortunately there isn’t a secret. I want there to be a secret so bad. I really do. I would tell that secret to everyone who asked. You just gotta do it. You gotta commit to eating better and working out. That’s not the answer people want and it’s not the answer I wanna give but it’s true. The process is hard and it sucks but you come out the other side looking better and feeling better. You just gotta hope that’s enough.

With that said, the thing that has helped me the most is the #EllipticalGangGangGang. You might think I’m joking but I’m 1000% serious. The main reason I’ve stuck with this for 3 months is because of the people doing it with me. Yes, they’re on the internet but we’ve formed this weird little community. The fiercest group in fitness. It makes me accountable to something. I know that if I miss a workout or eat 14,000 Air Heads on a Wednesday that I’ve let down my internet workout partners. Again, it sounds stupid, but everybody sending me pictures of their #gang workouts inspires the fuck outta me. I love my gang. I couldn’t do it without them.

That’s it. That was long. Thanks for reading.

I simply need to move my body around more so I don’t pack as much weight on my body. That’s it. Maybe eat a little better, too. I was doing nothing before. Now I’m doing a little more than nothing and that’s perfect.

That’s still the goal. We’re gonna keep working. See you in a month.
