"Save Us Dave Gettleman" Is The Hottest Parody Song Out About The Giants GM
I’ll admit that I was skeptical of this song when I first saw a group of guys that looked like extras from every New Jersey scene in The Sopranos. But once the sweet melody of Pearl Jam kicked in, the caucasity of my blood took over and I had no choice but to enjoy this song. Sure the reminders of Jerry Reese, the Eagles winning the Super Bowl and pretty much every second of last season were bummers. But the images of the last two Super Bowls gave me goosebumps and listening to Ereck Flowers get roasted in musical form will bring a smile to any Giants fans face.
The crazy thing about all this is that Dave Gettleman’s approval rating will never be higher than it is right now. Once Thursday night comes and the 2nd pick is made, Gettleman will be second guessed by a ton of Giants fans, no matter what he does. If he takes Saquon Barkley, everybody that thinks high picks should not be used on running backs will rip him a new asshole. If he takes a quarterback, the Giants future will be firmly hitched to the right arm of that QB while all the other QBs out there could be the one that got away, including the one the Jets will likely draft with the next pick. And if the Giants take Bradley Chubb or trade down, every Giants fan will be rooting against the success of a bunch of QBs and Saquon Barkley for the next 10+ years. Fun times!
For the record, I’ve already accepted that the player picked is out of my hands and there is nothing I can do about it now. This is the same way I felt once it appeared that Pat Shurmur was going to be head coach. No need to get too high or too low about something you have literally no control over. All the stuff Gettleman has said about Barkley is exactly what a GM should say if he is trying to get as much value for his pick before trading it. However, all the stuff Gettleman has said about Barkley is also exactly what a GM that is absolutely in love with a player like Saquon Barkley would so. So I have no fucking clue what’s going to happen on Thursday night. My first preference is drafting a quarterback. Any Giants fan that lived through the Dave Brown Era *shudder* knows just how rudderless a franchise can be without a QB. But those that lived through said Dave Brown Era *shudders again* know that a franchise will give that QB every chance to prove himself before moving on. If Gettleman and company believe in the best QB available, they should take him. If not, I want them to trade down or take Barkley if no good deals present themselves.
But it’s not my decision, it’s Dave Gettleman’s. That’s why the Giants pay him the big bucks and why he gets parody songs written about him.
