It's Absolutely Pathetic That Kris Bryant Doesn't Have A Better Relationship With The Chicago Cubs
This clip is making the rounds this morning and rightfully so. Probably won't be the last time we're talking about it so don't be confused if you see more coming from this interview. For now I want to give the episode a full bodied shameless self promotion as some A+ work. Tons of Deshaun Watson round tabling that should sound exactly like every group of Bears fans talking about Deshaun Watson. An extremely heated free agency discussion about the White Sox that's a throwback to the Old Days. Chief roasts Bowman without mercy and of course a Bulls sampler platter of takes. It's well worth a full listen if we're being honest with each other here like I ask.
That said, obviously the meat of Red Line Radio this week is Kris Bryant in the midst of the most tumultuous Cubs offseason since 2004. Pretty incredible to think about everything that's happened to this franchise over that time... how much we've overcome and how long it's taken the Cubs to finally get to a respectable a level. How many hours and people and change and effort it takes to go from being the perennial laughing stock of the sport to the most expensive ticket in MLB year over year. Six winning seasons in a row, five of them resulting in playoffs, three of which end up in the Pennant series, one of which brings a title. That's their best stretch since penicillin and over night we're basically giving it away.
It makes you equal parts furious and confused, but then when you hear stuff like this from KB about his emotions in 2018, literally in the middle of three straight NLCS appearances when he's BY FAR the most productive player on the team... and it's impossible not to wonder if the Cubs really ever had a chance to keep this thing together to begin with. Like to me that's just an absolute impossible dumpster fire of a relationship but what do I know. I'm just a blogger. I think you're much better off listening to the interview yourself and forming your own opinion.
I'll be back later today with some impassioned observations, most of which will center on how disgusted I am with the state of the Cubs. Gotta go buy some cigs and take a long walk first.
