How Big Cat And PFT Commenter Almost Ended And Saved TJ Watt's Life At The Same Time
On today's Pardon My Take... TJ WATT! The NFL's Defensive Player of the Year joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter in Los Angeles to discuss his new award, Big Ben, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Watt family, and much more. There was also a time recently when Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter were playing with fire, with TJ stuck in the middle of it. Watt is highly allergic to tree nuts, and the guys tried to prank him while out in LA, but things almost got messy. Take a look:
Mr. Cat: TJ, I have to come clean with something. We almost had a disaster in this studio, right before you came here.
TJ Watt: What happened?
Mr. Cat: Alright, so everyone knows Pardon My Take and JJ's relationship, it's actually, I've become friends with him. We text, you know, not like all the time, but you know, we'll catch up every now and then, talk about the Badgers. So last night I texted him, I was like, "Hey, what do you have TJ that I can get him on?" And he was like, "Well, he's like legit, like very, very badly allergic to tree nuts." And he was like, "He almost died at Derek's wedding, didn't go to the wedding." So I was like, "Great." So, I went and I bought some nuts and put them in a Ziploc bag and wrote "tree nuts" on them. And I told the guys before, and they're like, "But wait, what are those nuts?" And I was like, "Almonds." And they're like, "Those are tree nuts."
Mr. Cat: Yeah, I didn't realize, so you almost died again. Like that would have almost happened.
TJ Watt: That would have been like three out of the five Super Bowl weekends I had attended that I had… We are just telling the story last night, when we were in Arizona, JJ got Defensive Player of the Year, I don't know what, one of the three times, and I are some like lo mein or something from the hotel and I had an allergic reaction. I was on the red carpet with just a red face. There was one, in Pittsburgh, James Harrison actually emergency drove me to the hospital, because my face looked like I just went five rounds with Mike Tyson. And then, one year at the Super Bowl, my dad jokingly threw a pecan at me, and it hit me in the face, and my face blew up.
TJ Watt: I know, he felt terrible about it.
Mr. Cat: (Laughing) He threw a pecan at you!
TJ Watt: He felt really bad about it, I still give him crap, he's like, "I didn't throw it," I'm like, "Me and you were the only ones in the room, man."
Mr. Cat: Holy shit, that's funny.
Mr. Cat: Man, that would have been bad.
Mr. Commenter: We might have killed you.
TJ Watt: Oh, it might have been bad.
Mr. Commenter: Yeah, I saved your life. I saw that bag and I was like, "Wait, Big Cat, I think that almonds are tree nuts. Please, can we not kill our guests today?"
As a fellow allergy person, I can totally feel what TJ Watt went through in these moments. When Billy Football brought his dog into the studio one night, it was a scene. I'm not deathly allergic like TJ is to nuts, but I can see how he can get uncomfortable. Credit to Mr. Commenter for practically saving TJ Watt's life here. Wow.
