KFC Radio Featuring Alan Sepinwall
Interview begins at 50 mins
Let me tell you all a little tale. A little story about patience and persistence. Alan Sepinwall is one of my White Whales. I’ve been reading his TV commentary for years now. He’s the only TV critic I think matters. Writes about television in a casual relatable manner like an average TV. Sort of like a Barstool blogger in a way. I’ve always wanted to talk to him about TV and the way he covers it.
So I emailed Alan two YEARS ago. 9/5/2015 I wrote him asking to do a podcast collab. Heard nothing from him. Wrote him 9/16/2015 being like “I sent you an email over Labor Day weekend, maybe you missed it, or maybe you’re just blowing me off.” Still nothing back. Basically Alan Sepinwall just shit down my throat. Big timed to the max. Fast forward to last week and Alan replies to me…to the same exact email chain…two YEARS later. Gave me the old “Hey sorry it took me a while to get back to you” as if it was like a few days late. He said he saw some tweets of mine and remembered to write back. Cocky move. Real power move if you ask me. Like “I’ll write back to you when I feel like it. Even if its several years later.”
And so yesterday we finally had our first sit down. Barstool DVR featuring Alan Sepinwall. We talked about The Wire and Sopranos and whether comedies or dramas can stand the test of time, how to cover television in the “Dude! Cmon! Spoiler” Era, how Alan went from NYPD Blue Message Boards to the preeminent TV critic on the internet, most underrated and overrated shows on television now, and WHY the TV industry universally agreed that the OJ Show was the greatest show ever created even though it was laugh out loud bad. Tune in, interview starts at 50 mins.
