Trilly Does A Soccer!

I am happy to announce that Trilly has done exactly one (1) more soccer. And what a soccer ’twas! It was my Atlanta United taking on my Portland Soccermens for the MLS title. I didn’t think there was a chance that Arthur Blank was going to let me back inside the Benz Dome after our falling out in 2002. Credit to Arthur for being willing to bury the hatchet. I would also be remiss if I did not thank the fine people at MLS for getting us far closer to the pitch (I learned that is what we call the soccer field) than we deserved. Onto the soccer!

I was terrified before the game and for about 89 of the 90 minutes played. With the history of Georgia sports, there was no chance we were going to be cutting down the nets at the end of the night. The game was pretty tame for the first 35 minutes or so. Logan and I used this time to HOUSE every single hor d’oeuvre the MLS dared to put in front of us. It got ugly fast. Atlanta scoring right before halftime made things much worse, as this only seemed to be setting up the devastating collapse. Halftime came and after Logan stuffed several chicken tenders in his camera bag, we headed to catch up with close personal friend/soccer aficionado Waka Flocka Flame. We made our way past Lil Scrappy and Evander Holyfield to do an exclusive interview. I had to address the elephant in the Benz Dome and ask Flocka how the United were going to blow this. Before he could respond, our interview was crashed by longtime United fan Bibble and you will NOT want to miss what he had to say.

I missed most of the second half of the game as I had to explain many soccer terms and phrases to Sam, of Sam’s Army, fame. He understood the ball going into the net part, but everything else was very hazy on his end so I was happy to bring him up to speed on the finer points of fútbol (football{{soccer}}).  The last five minutes or so of the game was 73,019 people holding their breath as to make sure the United didn’t blow it and alas, they did not!

My United, champs for the first (and probably last) time. What a team. What a night. What a sport.
