Frank Walks Episode 55: Shane Spencer presented by BODYARMOR

In 1998, Shane Spencer made an instant impact for the New York Yankees, hitting ten home runs in 67 at-bats after getting called up in September. Spencer's hot streak continued into the Division Series, as he got a chance to start after Darryl Strawberry's cancer diagnosis. It was the first of three straight World Championships for the Yankees.

Despite his success in 1998, Shane Spencer had run afoul of the Players' Association. Three years earlier, during spring training, he had played in the replacement games. Due to this, Spencer was kicked out of the union and not allowed to have his name and likeness used on championship merchandise.

At the end of his career, Shane Spencer spent time with the Mets before ending his career in Japan. We discussed all of this and more during a walk around Manhattan.
