Whoa That's Weird: "One Bite Edition" Episode 2

Offered to buy someone a Sharks jersey if they could guess what the grossest tasting thing I sampled on the “snack street” was. No one got it. One person came close and guessed “Seahorse” but everyone else was way off. It’s Starfish. Starfish tasted like crunchy acidic vomit. It tasted so bad that I hit up google immediately after to see if any culture’s eat these things intentionally. This is what I found:

“Certain species of starfish are edible. In some countries, such as Japan, starfish is considered a delicacy. Starfish can be baked, boiled or deep fried. The legs must be severed and opened to reach the edible flesh inside, which is scooped out with a small fork or spoon.”- Reference.com

“Lay the starfish belly up, and open each foot to reveal the cooked flesh.
Eating the skin should not be part of the starfish experience.“- Fish Recipes

Oops! Turns out the “One Limb Everyone Knows The Rules” technique isn’t how you’re supposed to eat a Starfish. Turns out the skin isn’t even edible. That make’s much more sense. I guess the official verdict is still out on Starfish then untill I can sink my teeth into a nice lump of pure flesh. Will be sure to put that on my To-Do list next time I’m in Japan…
