A Bears Poll Question That Is Going To Start A Civil War In Chicago
I was scrolling tiktok in bed this morning like a bum and I came across a video from a PFF analyst. My apologies to the analyst and to PFF because I couldn't find the clip again. The Draft analyst guy placed trade value on the Panthers' #1 pick and on Justin Fields. He said that the #1 overall pick is going to be worth three future 1st round picks and he said Fields is likely going to fetch a 2nd round pick. I am taking that as gospel for the purpose of this debate.

The crux of this argument for me comes down to two ideas
1) I don't think Caleb Williams or Drake Maye are for sure going to be better than Justin Fields. I don't really love either guy. If there were an Andrew Luck type of QB prospect at the top of this draft then this is a no-brainer. This feels like more of a roll of the dice. A hope and a prayer that you upgrade the QB position and simultaneously extend the window by having a QB on a rookie deal. I think I'd rather kick the can down the road with the Devil we know and pick up those extra draft picks.
2) Why does every QB reset the market for what QBs make when they become a free agent? I understand paying Burrow and Mahomes. I do NOT understand paying Daniel Jones. Pick up the 5th year option, offer him a reasonable extension if he earns it. If he walks or clearly isn't the guy, well, re-invest those draft picks into another QBs.
If the Bears can trade back to another spot in the top 4, acquire more picks, and still be able to draft Marvin Harrison Jr then I think that is the best option. Somehow some way, the Bears have inched towards being competent despite the chaos at the beginning of the year, the injury to Fields, and an offensive coordinator who can't seem to gameplan for his best players. I'd rather change the coaches than the QB at this point.
People are PASSIONATE on both sides of this poll though. People saying that if you do one or the other then you just don't know ball
I don't know what the best way forward. I am biased because I am sick of rebuilding and the cycle of suck with new QBs and coaches. I want to draw a line in the sand and have some sort of identity and cohesion as an organization. Fields feels safer at this point. Missing on a QB at the top of the draft would set the franchise back another 10 years.
