DJ Moore And Darnell Mooney Are Both Convinced That Justin Fields Is The Guy
Pretty strong endorsement from QB1s best two receivers. Especially from Mooney.
I will say that I am firmly in the camp that Moore laid out. "I don't think Willams and Maye are better than Fields". That is what makes this whole thing so difficult. There's a million different ways to analyze the Bears. There's plenty of excuses to be made. Logical reasons to show why Fields hasn't been put in a good position to win or succeed in Chicago. You see things like the graphic yesterday where Justin Fields improved pretty substantially from his first 17 starts to his second 17 starts. And I did need that graphic because watching the games it is obvious. This man finished 9th in MVP voting last year for a team that had the worst record in the NFL.
It feels worse this year even if the stats say it's better. Maybe it is worse against nothing but the expectations of him taking a leap forward this year with Moore as WR1 and a more solidified offensive line. No leap and no runs. I can not understand how the Bears with better weapons and a better offensive line took a guy who ran for 1100 yards last year and turned him into a Drew Bledsoe clone. Few roll outs, not many designed runs, and not a single electrifying scramble. Justin Fields only has two runs on the year longer than 20 yards. There's no obvious explanation for that.
Then you see things like this from yesterday
I don't know exactly where the line is between "pressures" and holding the ball too long and not being able to throw with pressure around you or throw the ball with anticipation. Flacco was under a ton of pressure because the Browns O-Line was missing 4 starters. He still threw for 374 yards. You can't get out-played by the Browns' 4th option at QB.
At this point...I surrender. I don't know anything. I am biased towards keeping Fields. I don't want to start over completely. WSD says that Fields is never going to lead anyone to a Super Bowl, which I agree with, but I also don't think a guy who is 24 years old is done improving. Can Fields be like the 12th best QB in the league? I think that is possible.
I don't think Fields can be Josh Allen level good, but if they ever gave him a gameplan suited to his skills I think Fields would be more effective and more consistent.
Which brings me to the poll of the people
If you combine the last two we, as a fan base, are basically at a third a third a third. I don't trust Getsy/Eberflus, I am not sure I trust anyone with the Bears. The WRs and Fields included. The Bears need a real coach. They need Harbaugh or someone with bonafides. Someone smarter than me, smarter than you, smarter than Eberflus, Getsy, and George McCaskey. A real football guy to come in and tell me that Fields can do it. I don't know what I think anymore, but the status quo ain't it. I don't care how good the Browns Defense is. You can't have your defense gift wrap you 14 points and then you end with a total of 17.
