NOT A DRILL: USMNT PURSUING JURGEN KLOPP

The United States have identified Jurgen Klopp as a top target as they seek a new manager to replace Gregg Berhalter.

Berhalter’s second stint in charge of the USA was brought to an end this week after a group stage exit from the Copa America on home soil.

The Independent understands that initial contact has been made with Klopp over the possibility of replacing the 50-year-old, as the United States gears up for the 2026 World Cup. The US will co-host the tournament with Canada and Mexico and will be looking to build on a Round of 16 exit in Qatar.

HOLY HELL THAT IS GREAT NEWS TO START THE DAY

Now, Klopp might've just responded to the text from his agent with a simple thumbs down reply. Not even the emoji. Just the reply. But, I like that that USMNT is shooting for the stars. We can't afford to fuck up this 2026 on home soil with this group of players. Klopp feels like the perfect guy to steward us to a finish in that tournament we can be proud of. Fresh eyes on our most talented group ever from one of the greatest living managers. If the United States can land him that'd be a genuine statement of intent. A step up.

Klopp cited burn out as his reason for leaving Liverpool. Well being the National team manager is a lot less demanding. Scout your own guys. Run the camps a few times per year. Some glorious trips to incredible vacation spots across CONCACAF in the next few years and then take USMNT to glory for our last great American sports story. Oh...and maybe a $20M check. Seems like a win for both sides.

I am sure that the USMNT will find a way to fumble the bag and we will end up with an MLS coach, but reaching for the stars is a great first step.
