Update On The CHSN Fiasco With Comcast
I am waving the white flag. Apathy has set in. I hate complaining. It is not going to fix anything. My understanding of the situation is that there is no deal coming with youtube ever and there is not any sort of traction with comcast. It is what it is. This is just the fate we have to suffer as Blackhawks fans. As I said in the video, I just want to watch hockey. I really wish I didn't know how the sausage was made at this point. In an ideal world we don't know or care who the President of Business Operations is. We have no clue who the president of the TV station is. We just watch and root for the team that we love. We enjoy the broadcast. We hope for progress. It feels like that is off the table for now. I feel like I already sort of know how this is going to play out. The Blackhawks are going to launch their direct to consumer app for like $100+ for the season. Which I will buy. Then they will strike a deal with comcast at the highest tier which will increase my bill by $20/month. If there's no refund on the app then I will be into the Blackhawks for like $300 total when you add in the price I paid for the antenna which doesn't work. And...I won't even care that much. They know they've got people like me for life. I was born into the Blackhawks. I didn't choose them. I can't switch to Seattle just because they're on Amazon Prime. We have no leverage as fans. Our only leverage is to stop caring. Millions did that the last time there was accessibility issues with TV. I don't want that to happen again. If people like me, the most diehard fans in the market, are becoming apathetic towards the Blackhawks I can't even imagine how the casual fans feel. Maybe they didn't even notice that a generational star isn't on TV locally. Which is a shame and a waste.
That is the other thing that I realized. Bedard has been here for 18 months or so. I feel like I barely know anything about him as a person. The same can be said for every other player on the team. That wasn't the case with the previous era. Those guys were showcased better. Even if some of the marketing and storylines were contrived, it was still effective. This group has none of that so far. The Bears also have a young super star and they've marketed him MUCH better than what the Blackhawks have done with Bedard. Fans are dying to have an emotional connection to the Blackhawks. We had it with the broadcast. That was the last remaining link to the culture. That was cast aside as well. Like I said...is what it is. I am still a fan. I still want everyone with the Blackhawks to be successful. I'll watch them when/how I can, but I am done being upset and complaining.
Thank god the Bears are looking good and they've got good, lovable guys like Cole Kmet
