The Yankees Extend Aaron Boone Through 2027 As The Rest Of The League Rejoices

Typically when a team announces they're extending their manager/head coach that's met with applause and relief from the fanbase. That's never the case when it comes to Aaron Boone. Instead you get Red Sox and Mets fans rejoicing that this incompetent buffoon is going to continue to run the ship for the next three years. Yankees fans proceed to simultaneously roll their eyes and groan. That's our manager baby!

Look, did I see this coming? I mean who didn't? The only people truly shocked today are those who don't pay attention. Boone managed a team that won the AL and made the World Series. He was always going to get extended after that run. Only a season where they missed the postseason again or got bounced by the Royals in the ALDS would have brought up serious debate within the organization about his future. Even with that, they're so comfortable with Boone that he probably would have stayed around.

The counter to Boone slander by the Yankee fanbase is typically centered around managers not having lots of control in baseball these days. If the players love him, why does it matter? How much does Boone impact a game? Is he really the reason they're losing big games? It's a fair point, especially when Aaron Judge turns into a shell of himself when it matters most. Boone could pull every right lever in October and it wouldn't matter if 99 doesn't come through. They will not win a World Series until he flips the switch like A-Rod in 2009. With that being said, did anyone watch Game 1 of the 2024 World Series when Boone brought in starting pitcher Nestor Cortes Jr. with two on and one out in the bottom of the 10th inning as Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts stepped to the plate in a one run game. He chose to hand the ball to a guy who hadn't thrown in a month instead of a reliable lefty reliever in Tim Hill to get the biggest outs of the season. It was a move that perfectly summed up his time with the Yankees. A microcosm of Boone not being able to elevate the team in big moments. The asinine decision naturally blew up in his face and set the tone for the Yankees to get dusted in the World Series. THAT is how Boone can negatively impact a game.

But sure, every manager makes bad moves at some point. You're not going to bat 1.000 when it comes to that shit. If I'm being transparent here, he managed great in the series that proceeded the World Series. Some of the moves he made were shockingly good. Just didn't get the whole job done, which is how you're judged as the Yankees manager.

The stuff that really bothers me with Boone is his lack of accountability with the guys in the clubhouse. There's being a player-first manager and standing behind your guys, and then there's a whole different level that Boone takes it to. The guy refuses to hold anyone accountable for their repeated mistakes and welcomes a culture of incompetency as a result. It's something we've seen throughout the years of his time as the skipper whether it be from Gleyber Torres, Josh Donaldson, Aaron Hicks, etc. Boone loves to piss on our heads and tell us it's not raining.

That's more of an organizational directive though, as they think the fanbase is full of people with an IQ of 12. We knew the defense was an issue all season. We knew they needed a legitimate left fielder for years. We currently know they need a 3rd baseman. Nope, we're all wrong and they're right. That's the pattern. The running theme. Maybe one of these days they'll prove us wrong, but for now Aaron Boone continues to the be the leader of a New York Yankees team that no one else in the league fears.

Despite all of the words above, this doesn't even bother me that much. What pisses me off is that DJ LeMahieu has a real shot to be the team's opening day starting third baseman. Stop being cheap and actually address the problem you fucking morons.
