Congratulations to Liverpool on Winning Their 2nd Premier League Title
New Episode of Pitch Picks Out Now!
It’s not even March, and the Premier League title race is already over. Although it has been clear from the start that Liverpool is the best team in the league, the reason the title race is effectively over in February has nothing to do with them. In fact, it has everything to do with Arsenal.
Arsenal entered the year as favorites to win the league. After finishing second in back-to-back seasons, it seemed logical to expect them to take the next step and finally win the title. But that’s where everyone, including myself, was wrong. This is simply Arsenal’s identity—perpetual runners-up. As Frank the Tank says: always teasing, never pleasing.
Arsenal reminds me a lot of my incompetent NFL team, the Miami Dolphins. The problems start at the top, with the owner and front office, and trickle all the way down to the medical staff. The club has continued to ignore its most glaring weakness: the lack of a proper striker. It should surprise no one that a team relying on the likes of Merino, Jesus, and even Sterling has fallen short of winning the league. Instead of signing the striker we desperately needed, we prioritized adding depth to an already stacked part of the squad, rather than finding support for key players like Saka—who could use a rest every now and then.
Beyond the lack of key additions, I’ve never seen a team with more players perpetually injured than Arsenal. It’s insane how many players are unavailable every week. Honestly, it’s impressive that we’re even in second place. But second isn’t good enough. That’s why I believe Mikel Arteta should be sacked. Then again, just like the Dolphins, Arsenal will probably run it back and make the same mistakes they’ve been making for the last 20 years.
