Sad Scenes Last Night At Indian Wells With Nick Kyrgios Leaving The Court In Tears As His Wrist Injury Appears Hellbent On Forcing Him To Retire From The Sport Sooner Rather Than Later

Nick Kyrgios is one of the more interesting "what if" players in tennis history. Sure he has his haters, plenty of them if we're being honest, but when he was right he provided the sport with something it had never really seen before. He was a rebel in a way and brought a different kind of energy and life to a game that could be proper and boring at times. The man was built to entertain and amaze, which I always appreciated. He'd also speak his mind freely and give you press conference moments you weren't used to in tennis. In short, he was really easy to blog about.

When Nick was right he could challenge every single player on tour with one of the best serves, a rocket forehand, and a delicate net game that would catch you off guard. Unfortunately he didn't start to care about his game and the necessary preparation that went into being a consistent great player until it was too late into his career. Now his body is catching up to him and a nagging wrist injury appears destined to cut his time on the court short. Those prime years in his mid-20s never amounted to what they could have been with the talent this dude possessed.

Last night during the first round of Indian Wells, Nick had to retire from his match in the 2nd set. He called on the physio before pulling the ripcord and leaving the court. He could be seen shedding tears as the frustration from this injury was pouring out. There was definitely at a point in his career where he didn't care about tennis, but he definitely does now, especially at a place like Indian Wells.

Sue me, but I feel for the guy. Tennis is simply better when Nick Kyrgios is challenging the very best in these big tournaments. But like I said, he sure does have his haters.

I'm willing to bet a lot of people saw Nick's injury last night and proceeded to dance on his grave. They're sickos who are drinking his tears with a smile on their face. They wanted him gone from the sport five years ago if it was possible. God forbid someone brings new eyeballs to the game and injects some life. That's not to say Nick is the only one doing that now, but a few years ago there weren't many others like him. His run to the Wimbledon Final was electric. Anytime he stepped on John Cain Arena at the AO it was box office entertainment. Matches like his one vs. Medvedev at the US Open not too long ago were enough to make anyone a tennis fan. He's polarizing no doubt and has his flaws, but man could he wow you on a tennis court when his mind and body were locked in.

I don't know how much longer Kyrgios has left in him before he retires for good. Wrist injuries flat-out ruin careers, just look at Dominic Thiem for example. Kind of feels like he plays a few grass tournaments, a surface he excels at, and then gears up for a swan song at next year's Australian Open. Sad to see a talent of his go down like this, but that's the brutality of sports sometimes.

Speaking of tennis, I can't wait for you guys to see the content we filmed at Indian Wells over the last few days. Novak Djokovic, Joao Fonseca, Carlos Alcaraz, Kyrgios, and Ben Shelton all mixing it up with us. The Djokovic stuff was wild and I'm not sure I realize yet how crazy of a few minutes these were. Full video out soon.
