After His Continued Disaster On Defense During Spring Training, Jose Altuve In Left Field Is Going To Be Must Watch This Season

With the real Opening Day one week away from kicking off, a very fun storyline has developed that has the chance to captivate America's attention if it continues — Jose Altuve cannot catch the ball.
Now a disclaimer before we roll the tape, Altuve, a second baseman as far as any of any can remember, is set to be the team's starting left fielder for the Astros this season. Mauricio Dubón and his elite defense will be the team's primary second baseman so the hope is they can hide Altuve in left with the short Crawford boxes at home. On the road might be a different story though.
The experiment has been fascinating to witness this spring. This first one below is not a crazy fuck up. Just mistimed the ball and didn't have a feel for the wall. It happens. Not going to kill him for that.
The next one though is alarming. Trying to time up the ball while worrying about a runner on base tagging. Disaster.
And last night it happened again, almost a carbon copy play.
Common sense would lead you to believe he'll get more comfortable with the new position as time progresses. Growing pains will be a thing, but he'll figure it out. With that being said, it'd be WAY more fun for Altuve the left fielder to be an absolute disaster. Left field is NOT an easy position to just dive right into. Until Alex Verdugo last year, the Yankees went years without a competent left fielder. Now you're throwing a second baseman out there and hoping for the best. Altuve on defense is going to be appointment television to start off here. Here's to hoping this blows up in Houston's face. They're so due for something terrible to happen to them.
