Prince Philip Retires From Public Life
(Source)- Prince Philip, 95-year-old husband of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, is to step down from public life, Buckingham Palace has announced. The prince, who has been at the Queen’s side for her 65-year reign and is also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, will stop accepting public engagements from September, the palace said.
The Queen, who is 91 and has gradually scaled back her public appearances in recent years, will continue to carry out her duties supported by other members of the royal family. “His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has decided that he will no longer carry out public engagements from the autumn of this year. In taking this decision, The Duke has the full support of The Queen,” the Buckingham Palace statement said. “Prince Philip will attend previously scheduled engagements between now and August, both individually and accompanying The Queen,” the statement added. “Thereafter, The Duke will not be accepting new invitations for visits and engagements, although he may still choose to attend certain public events from time to time.” The Queen, who is the world’s longest-serving living monarch, will “continue to carry out a full programme of official engagements,” supported by other members of the royal family.
#Goals. What a move here from Prince Philip. Just chucking up the deuces on all people and all places outside of his own home. To be exact, this is the definition of retiring from public life:
“Prince Philip won’t be accepting new invitations for visits & engagements, he may still choose to attend certain events from time to time”
What a goddam dream come true. My current favorite thing to do in my whole life is canceling plans. I used to think nothing felt as good as waking up in the morning, about 4 days after agreeing to some plans, and thinking “there is no fucking CHANCE I’m still going to that.” Well what about waking up one day and saying “I’m never going to anything ever again.” This dude just canceled plans from now until he’s in the dirt. I think I’d cum from that.
And the best part is he’s just putting the old “dont even invite me.” Just assume I’m not coming and if I show up it’s a bonus. I’ve sorta been like that the last couple years through pregnancy and newborns. People still invite me though because they feel bad, which I appreciate. It’s always the old “I know there’s probably no chance you can make it but I just wanted to invite you anyway.” Makes you feel like you’re not a dead person, I guess. But it also makes you go through to process of telling people no and teasing yourself and what not. I’d love to just throw a blanket “NO” out there. Eternal RSVP. Not gonna make it to your BBQ, your birthday party, your christening, your graduation, you’re ANYTHING. Your party in public? Then I’m out. I’ve retired from public life.
