Hi Haters! Visits Mavericks Big Wave Surf Spot After Kate Declares It A 'Must See'

Long story short – before our trip to San Francisco I couldn’t stop talking up Mavericks, a ‘big wave’ surfing spot outside the city near Half Moon Bay. This pretty much shows how lost I got us & how disappointing it was when we actually got there.

During winter storms waves at Mavericks can top out over 60ft & two professional surfers have lost their lives there (Mark Foo & Sion Miloski). I’ve always had a massive respect for anyone who surfs it & I’d been a couple times on road trips & to see the massive swells is humbling. So… I knew it was ‘off season’ & out of the way, but still dragged Chaps & our producer Bren through traffic, backroads & boonies to see it even though we were on a tight schedule. When we got there it was calmer than a lake. The real spot is around the corner from where we were, but same vibes. No waves. Collar pull.

I do this to people all the time where I get excited, build something up & then it never seems as cool as I hyped it up to be.
