Thanks To NASCAR I Am No Longer Afraid Of Nuts: A Day With RCR Racing's Pit Crew
The NASCAR races & events surrounding Daytona & Talladega were incredible experiences but I have to admit, the Charlotte 600 over Memorial Day Weekend was a whole other ballgame. They rolled out the red carpet for active duty military, veterans, Gold Star families, and remembered the fallen in many ways, including stopping the entire race for a moment of silence and putting names of our fallen military members on the cars front & center. And it wasn’t just for show, walking around & speaking with the drivers, it was clear they knew the stories behind the names & felt the weight of it. It’s something I’ll never forget, and one of the highlights was ZeroBlog30s visit to RCR Racing. The hospitality they showed us was unmatched.
To top it off, never in a million years did I think I’d be driving a real stock car (poorly!), or hanging out with Tyler Reddick, Auston Dillon, & their wild (butt-tatted) crew. They took a whole afternoon the day before the race to show us the ropes in the garage, and their patience was unmatched. I was terrified of the Lug Nutz Gun (pretty sure that’s the official word for it), especially when one of the pit crew showed me a mouth guard he wears in case one of the nuts flies up & knocks a tooth out. (You hate to see it happen.) But thanks to them I overcame those fears. I am no longer afraid of peeling out in stick shift (at about 5mph) and most importantly, I no longer fear nuts after giving that tire a what’fer & stripping it clean.
If you haven’t checked out a NASCAR event yet & are looking for something different to do with your friends you have got to check it out. Time & time again people come up to us at the races & say it’s become an annual thing for them that they can’t wait to get to. It’s easy to see why.
If you wanna go fast this weekend without leaving your lounge chair, be sure to tune into NASCAR’s Monster Energy Pocono 400 on Sunday, June 2nd. You can catch it on FSN. It was the first race I ever went to in my early 20s before I knew anything about the sport & I loved every second. Highly recommend!
